Honest, Hon - I Was Working!
I put in 2 of 3 days at the NRA Convention. Did a lot of stuff, met a lot of people, saw a lot of neat things. I have spent a good part of the day today sorting and organizing information, business cards, etc. I opted out of attending today as I had no real plan, and my main interest would’ve been hearing Ted Nugent speak. Rather than getting up early, wandering around and attending one session, I decided to stay home and work. Besides, my feet are tired!
Anyway, the part of writing/blogging that I am not good at is networking. I am not a conversationalist and standing in lines, going booth to booth, etc is not fun. Then - there’s dealing with the booth people. Some are elitists, some are snake oil salesman. Some (ok, many) don’t recognize the value of a blogger. I’m sure they think I’m typing manifestos on a laptop in my parents’ basement. Some are tired like me, and don’t want to be there. By far, the hardest part of my internet-writer “job” is circulating the booths, chatting and glad-handing their occupants. Check out this example of booth-dwellers from the GunsAmerica.com booth:
