Day One At The NRA Convention
Well - I parked at work and walked over to the Sheraton, so that I could attend the NRA-ILA Grassroots Workshop. It was great to hear from NRA President John Sigler, Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, and especially - Dick Heller of “DC vs Heller”.
We then had an update regarding anti and pro-gun legislation that is is currently on the radar. Then I needed to bolt out of there and head down to the convention centre.
My credentials were ready in the Press Office, with no hassles. It was a little bit surreal sitting there in the same room with the likes of Jim Zumbo from the Outdoor Channel and JR Absher from Outdoor Life. After a coffee and muffin, I moseyed on down to the exhibits.
I got through about a third of the exhibits, trying to balance being gaga at all of the gun stuff with networking and trying to talk to folks about my site and services. This is always a struggle for me. I’m not much of a conversationalist, especially when it comes to initiating conversation. That’s OK though - I get by. Stopped and had a chat with the Bone Collectors, along with a few other folks, here and there. Then it was time to head over to the Leadership Forum.
I liked most of the speakers - not the least of which were Michael Reagan and former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell. Those guys were entertaining and poignant. Our own Governor Jan Brewer spoke - I gotta tell you - she’s kinda hot in a way (no disrespect intended Governor).
By 3:00 PM, my butt was sore so I headed back to the exhibits. I rushed through, since I knew I would be back tomorrow. I stopped in to the press room again, just in time to hear part of a presentation by Cam Edwards from NRA News.
That was enough for me, for one day. I’ll have more tomorrow!
