Sometimes….life happens
An update, and repeated apologies for my offerings here being “light” as of late. Our house is sold, and closes on the 26th of November. Bad news is it sold for 10s of thousands of dollars less than it listed for, 16 months (yes - 16 months!) ago. Good news is that we still managed to sell it for a little more than what we paid for it. A respectable profit for a 6 year investment, I guess. We also found a new house. Good news is it is darn near perfect, actually below our target price, and bigger than the home we are in now. Bad news is it has a much smaller back yard, and it won’t be ready to move into until at least mid-December. That means a 2-4 week layover, somewhere. Good news is the new owner of this house is willing to rent back to us for a month. Bad news is those negotiations aren’t going so well. We may have to rent a house, live in a hotel, or go camping for a couple of weeks. The hiccup is the 4 dogs. I mentioned boarding them, and that went over like a lead balloon. You see, in my home - the dogs are well above me in the grand order of things. When I said “We could board the dogs for a few weeks”, I might just as well have said “Let’s skin the dogs alive”. Anyway, we’ll work through it I am sure.
I have been swamped at work. We are so busy that we just hired 3 more guys and by the time they are up to speed, we will probably need some more.
All that translates into almost “zero” hunting time so far this season, and not much more time behind the keyboard. It shows, as I noticed my blog has slipped to Number 10, based on Steve’s October Stats. I certainly expected this, but that doesn’t make me like it!
I am scheduled to go hunt Coues with John Petrello next weekend, and even that outing is on shaky ground. It’s becoming increasingly hard to pass myself off as an “outdoor writer” when I never get any time afield. Admittedly, I am having a bit of an identity crisis.
Anyway, I’m sure by the new year, things will be settling back down. For now though, it sure is frustrating. Bear with me!
Glad you mentioned that about the dogs, cuz we got a 100 pound Dobbie that is just as much a part of our family as it appears yours are. And just as a reminder: this coming weekend hunt is not on ’shaky ground” you will be here.

I just wrote a similar post as this one on my site. Life does get in the way of our outdoor pursuits sometimes. It does suck but will make us appreciate the time we have more.

Glad you sold the house and found a new one. That’s got to feel good.
I was wondering when you’d comment about the fact that the stats had changed a bit.

LOL It’s much easier to be a competitive blowhard when your stats are going UP

Well, I don’t know about competitive blowhard, but it certainly is easier to mention the stats when you’re on the top of the pile.
Still, it is only one month.

Congrats on selling your house. Market is so tough, and you’re fortunate to come out on top.
Best of luck in the wilderness!
