Sportsmen For McCain? - Desert Rat - The Premier Hunting and Fishing Blog of the Southwest!

    Sportsmen For McCain?

Well, I have tried to stay away from politics on this blog, unless it affects sportsmen. If you don’t think the upcoming election will affect sportsmen and women, for better or for worse, then you must live in a cave.

I’ll be honest. Senator McCain was not my top choice. Maybe being in Arizona, I see things that folks in Delaware don’t see. Or Oregon. Or Nebraska. Or Louisiana. I am of a conservative stripe, through and through. That being said, my wife and I have batted our opinions around, read articles, and watched the debate. We do not choose Senator McCain, “just because”. Frankly, a lot of like-minded people that I know were hesitant to vote for McCain, but were dead set against voting for Senator Obama. Many folks found some of Ron Paul’s ideas intriguing, but just couldn’t see a vote for him as anything more than a wasted vote.

Admittedly, the addition of Governor Palin has made a bitter pill a whole lot easier to swallow. The ferocity with which the MSM and Hollywood elite have gone after her is a testament to how much she must connect with “regular people”.

I read articles about McCain and Obama, by both Outdoor Life and Field & Stream. I watched the first debate, as well as the Vice-Presidential debate. I have listened to the NRA. I have tried to wade through the spin regarding the two candidates’ stance on the Second Amendment. At the end of the day, I just have to believe that McCain/Palin is the best choice for Sportsmen. The ideal choice? Maybe not. But the best available.

I would strongly encourage you to visit Sportsmen For McCain and have a look around. I guarantee you’ll find some interesting stuff. It’s a well-laid out site with blogs, news, press releases, videos and more.

    From the site:

John McCain understands that hunters and anglers are the first conservationists and without them, conservation as we know it will cease to exist. John McCain recognizes the importance of recruiting the next generation of hunters and anglers as well as maintaining those currently in our ranks. John McCain believes in multiple uses of public lands and knows that the revenue generated by the licenses and gear that we purchase is the life blood of state wildlife agencies.

As stated, I did the research, and drew my own conclusion. Your conclusion may be different. If you put some thought into your choice, that’s all I ask. If you’re just chanting a mantra, well then – I think you’re being irresponsible.

If you’re eligible to vote, please make a point to do so. I think it’s going to be an interesting few weeks…

I admit to not being very thrilled about McCain, but his choice of Ms. Palin as running mate – like you said – made it a whole lot easier to buy into that ticket.

Side note – that bottom cartoon is just really really funny.
